Recent studies show a trend of increased numbers for remote jobs. Let’s look at some of those changes to better understand how these might effect your chances for getting a job during and after the coronavirus.

The following points from the Flexjobs.com 2019 Annual Survey show us how the workplace was changing even before this pandemic:
- 76% of professionals prefer fully remote work options.
- 74% of respondents believe that flexible working has become the “new normal.”
- Having a choice of working from home is now a key factor for those evaluating new career opportunities.
- 65% of respondents think they are more productive working from their home office.
Over the last five years remote work grew by 44%. FlexJobs and Global Workplace Analytics found that between 2005 to 2017, there was a 159% increase in remote work. In 2015, 3.9 million U.S. workers were working remotely. Today that number is at 4.7 million, or 3.4% of the population (Retrieved from Flexjobs.com).
Knowledge based jobs are leading the way to working remotely and companies are using workplace flexibility to attract and retain talent. What has not changed is how appearance plays a huge role in hiring whether in person or video interviews.
Why does appearance matter so much? A first impression will be established in the very first second your video becomes live. Are you smiling? Have you groomed the best hairstyle, make-up application, and dressed in your best job interview outfit? Assignments will be made based on what’s seen and believed about you in that flash. Did I tell you it will also be lasting?
